Imposter syndrome holding you back? Discover how to ‘Re-author Your Story’

Experiencing constant self-doubt, feeling scared of being exposed as a fraud and being unable to enjoy or capitalise on your successes is not much fun. In fact, imposter syndrome can often feel exhausting, frustrating and isolating.

But the truth is, you’re not alone – research shows around 70% of people experience it at some time.

The main issue with imposter syndrome is that it’s a self-perpetuating cycle. You discount any positive feedback or outcomes from work that you’ve done, so rather than building on your accomplishments, you end up back at square one.

The good news is that you can break the cycle – you just need to get really intentional about doing so.

A great place to start if you want to tackle imposter syndrome is & my free, short e-book. It’ll give you an insight into why you feel the way you do, an awareness of what that pesky cycle looks like, how to disrupt it, and some simple tips to make a difference right away.

The Secrets to Tackling Imposter Syndrome

However, if you want a little more support, consider joining the online, six week ‘Re-author Your Story’ coaching club.

How did the ‘Re-author Your Story’ programme start?

Imposter syndrome is something I’ve seen hold countless capable and otherwise confident people back, both in my corporate career and in my coaching practice. So, when I had to select a research subject for my MSc dissertation, it was the obvious choice.

Over two years, I interviewed formally trained coaches about the practical techniques they were using when their coachees experienced imposter syndrome, and cross-referenced this with the latest research in positive, behavioural and coaching psychology.

The result is an evidence-based, step-by-step model that helps you unravel self-limiting beliefs, reframe negative self-perceptions and cultivate a more empowering narrative.

How does it work?

You’ll be part of a small, super-friendly and inclusive group (no more than six people), creating a safe, supportive space to start changing your story.

We’ll meet online for two hours, every week for six weeks. During this time, I’ll guide you through three core time periods – the past, the present and the future – each with three sub-sections.

Every section builds on the last in a structured way, reframing inner strengths and external experiences, and embedding new way of thinking, feeling and acting that work for you, not against you.

Everyone is different, so we’ll work out the best ways to tailor these interventions to you and your circumstances. By the end, you’ll be equipped with a toolbox of techniques, tips and tricks as well as the momentum to confidently move forward and write the next chapter of your career and/or life the way you want it.

Wondering why it’s offered as group coaching?

Well, it’s an important part of the process. One of the quirks of imposter syndrome is that people often feel like they’re the only one.

It makes sense if you think about it. In order for you to be the imposter, everyone else must authentically be an expert. And that’s a cognitive distortion that we need to work on.

So connecting with others who have similar experiences helps normalise your feelings. Sharing your stories, challenges and small wins with fellow group members fosters empathy, validation and a sense of belonging. Having this social support is hugely impactful when it comes to on-going encouragement and accountability.

How much does it cost and when can I join?

The six week coaching club costs just £450 in total, and the next cohort with spaces starts 6.30-8.30pm, Monday 11th September 2023. Please email me directly adele@adelehawkes.com if you’d like to apply for the waiting list.

Through this collaborative and empowering journey, you’ll regain confidence, cultivate self-compassion, and ultimately thrive both personally and professionally. I can’t wait to work with you!

“I thought that Adele was astounding. After having a conversation about inclusivity in the workplace, the conversation was automatically drawn to childhood, upbringing, friendships and family. Adele really listened to my views and when she fed back to me, her statements made a really powerful impact in my thought process. An amazing woman who has really made me think.”
