Let me introduce myself

Hello and welcome!

I’m Adele, a Positive Psychology Coach who empowers people like you to capitalise on their strengths, build emotional intelligence and create a happy and successful life. Workplace wellbeing is one of my areas of expertise, and I’m also passionate about addressing young people’s self-confidence and resilience.

My Story

With 20 years of experience in PR and media agencies, I’ve worked in my fair share of fast-moving, creative and highly-pressured environments. I’ve met plenty of people who achieve great financial and professional success, yet still remain unfulfilled and unhappy. I’ve also seen how some people thrive under pressure and recover from setbacks unscathed, while other just as competent and capable people slip down a slope of severe stress and anxiety.

However, it wasn’t until I started a new PR venture about 10 years ago that I started to really consider why people were affected so differently.

This new job meant working with many inspirational and forward-thinking headteachers, SENCos and educational psychologists, who consistently told me the same thing. Happy students – with good self-esteem, a strong perceived learning capability and a feeling of connectedness to their school – are much more likely to achieve (above) their academic potential. They also show more perseverance when faced with difficult tasks and are less likely to be discouraged by ‘failure’.

This focus on wellbeing first and foremost really resonated with me. As a mum of three, above all else I want my children to be happy and emotionally resilient. It also got me thinking about how we so often assume success will lead to happiness, when really happiness leads to success.

After all, the way we see ourselves drastically alters the way we see the world.

Idle curiosity soon gave way to diligently devouring every book I could find on the subject. Eventually this fascination led me to the growing field of Positive Psychology, and the many evidence-based and well-researched interventions that can bring about powerful and positive change for individuals and companies.

As a Positive Psychology Coach, it’s my job to help my clients use the science of optimal human flourishing to bring more productivity, meaning and sustainable happiness into their lives.

My Approach

Having studied both Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, approaches we might take include:

  • Traditional coaching tools to encourage clarity about what is and isn’t currently working well
  • Specific positive psychology interventions to boost your overall happiness and wellbeing
  • Motivational Interviewing to explore how ready, willing and able you are to make positive and sustainable changes
  • Cognitive Behaviour techniques to help you overcome any unhelpful thinking patterns, self-limiting beliefs or assumptions that are holding you back
  • A Humanistic approach to allow you time and space to reflect and listen to your own voice, away from judgement or distractions
  • Behavioural coaching to improve your self-perception and self-efficacy
  • Solution-focused coaching to set measurable goals and focused action plans

With a PR and media background, I know a thing or two about gaining insights and engaging with people, based on their values, needs and motivations. It probably goes without saying that goal-setting is also in my blood.

However, perhaps the best way to describe my coaching approach is through my top ‘Values In Action’ (VIA) character strengths. These are Curiosity, Love, Social Intelligence and Humour.

Work with me and you’ll find I am genuinely interested in you, warm, open, non-judgmental and sensitive to your situation. While our sessions might take you down some challenging roads and you’ll be held to account for anything you say you’ll do, they’ll also be fun and enjoyable.

Gratitude is my fifth character strength – a core component of long-term happiness, which we’ll work on together.

So, if you’re ready to take the next step, please contact me by calling 0771 289 0291 or emailing adele@adelehawkes.com

Until then, thank you for stopping by. I appreciate it!
